Did it help you?Do you think it is just better to read books on this. So far I read a couple books. I was thinking of attending a class. answers:I did when I was in my 20s. It was the best money spent. Took two.
Household Finance Basics. Second one was Looking to the Future.
That covered Buying a home, saving for retirement. The seminar is more hands on and unlike just reading about it, you can ask questions.Charles asks…In search of some awesome books for young girls interested in becoming business owners?I am getting ready to attend college and was looking

Maria asks…what is the best personal finance/ accounts manager software?I am searching for a personal finance manager software. nothing complicated .. i only need to track my money, where it comes in where it goes, debt etc. answers:Hi – I’m an accountant. Steven is correct – you may already have Excel on your PC and if so then you’re all set. Just set up a spreadsheet like a check register. There are also lots of free templates that you can find online (including the Microsoft website) for Excel to track your money and budgets, etc.
But, if you want to purchase something a little more sophisticated then I would suggest Quicken. The basic version is fine for tracking your expenses, budget, and balancing your checkbook. You can set it up to automatically download transactions from your bank account too. Microsoft Money is another similar program but I don’t care for it as much.Mary asks…Best personal finance software: Quicken Mac (2007 or Essentials), MoneyWell, Moneydance? What is the best personal finance software available for Mac and why? Mark asks…Should he end this marriage now and why?I have two close friends who are newlyweds. She is nearly 50, he is in his early 40s, both married before, and are both bisexual (closeted for work and personal reasons). They love each other very much and get along great most of the time. They are both working professionals and she has helped him a lot in that regard, while he is her conscience and sounding board where she can (verbally) relieve her stresses from work and relay gossip safely and privately.
However, he came to me for advice on what to do. He says, and she admits, that she has a rather selfish streak when it comes to money and sex. She spends money recklessly on purchases and and has hurt their joint finances a lot with poor money management. He (at her request) has had to keep his money (she makes a lot more than him) separate from hers just so he has money to pay his personal bills and so on. Worse yet, she almost never is intimate with him (four times in eight months) and will not initiate sex. She is fairly affectionate outside the bedroom, even in public.
She says she has issues with intimacy and pooling financial resources with her partner (bad previous relationships) and needs time to get over these issues, but neither seems to be fixable (and she won’t talk to a counselor on either thing). She also likes to have sex with the same sex more than he does (without him around). Still she doesn’t want to lose him (he is a really good, loving man who has been hurt by women a lot).
He, however, prefers sex with women over men (though he likes transsexuals too). He doesn’t want to cheat on her with a woman, for (as his wife has said) the marriage would be over if he got caught. He (like she) can have sex with the same sex without issue as long he is safe and discreet. Even so, doing such does not satisfy his (much higher) overall sex drive.
Either the financial issues or the lack of sex will either drive him over the edge mentally or physically or cause the marriage to end badly. What should he do to save the marriage or should he end it now and move on, knowing he almost surely will never meet another woman who will accept his bisexuality as easily as her (much less possibly be bi herself)? answers:Look, I am a bisexual man who has been married to a woman for 23 years, and even I think this is bizarre. Being bisexual doesn’t mean you have to have sex with people other than your spouse. I have never once had sex with a man in all the years of our marriage. And my wife and I are happily married. The fact of the matter is that the “lack of sex” problem can be fixed. It happens to a lot of married couples no matter what their sexual orientations are. The solution to this problem comes down to communication and compromise, and that’s what he needs to shoot for with his wife.
PS – Maybe you could talk to your female friend and encourage her to work with her husband toward just such a compromise.Thomas asks…How to handle my finace’s coworker meddling weeks before our wedding? My fiance is a co-manager with a woman around our age at one of the local banks. In general he has a good working relationship with both her and their staff. The issue stems from her interference in our personal life. I have met the co-manager only twice. Both occassions were very uncomfortable. One was a few months ago at a party at her house where I was spoken to very little most of the night. This one i shrugged off because everyone knew eachother except me. The other instance was a few weeks ago when my finance was supposed to be going for drinks with her after work and invited me to join them so we could get to know eachother better. My behavior that evening was less than stellar. I had found out a few weeks prior to the evening of drinks that she had been encouraging my finace to rethink his marriage to me that “he is a nice guy, he deserves better and she is only saying something because him and the staff care about him”. Meanwhile this woman has a live in boyfriend and I do not believe her comments, though misguided, stem from unrealistic concern and not that she is harboring romantic feelings for him. At drinks, I was rather curt the first 20 minutes, in part from my own work stress and also in part to my uneasiness having drinks with a woman encouraging my fiance to leave me. Well my behavior that evening over drinks set her off in a firestorm. She has been trashing me to my fiance and their staff at every opportunity, strongly urging him to leave and claiming all of this is being done “because she cares”. I understand some of this stems from bad behavior of my fiance’s part, he had developed a friendship with this woman and was venting to her when him and I would bicker. That being said, I am very concerned that this woman, who he cannot avoid unless he quits his job, is saying these things about me and that she is doing it so frequently. When discussing this with my fiance he says that he has told her to stop on various occassions and tries to change the subject when she brings it up but he needs to tread lightly so that he does not cause trouble at what is otherwise a very good job. We are both not sure what to do at this point. Any advice people could offer would be great.
FYI- the wedding is in 6 weeks, I could do without the extra stress! answers:I think she is behaving in an inappropriate manner for a employer relationship. Your man ,who obviously is sticking with you should ask
someone in the company above her for a new assignment. He should ask to be transferred elsewhere in the company, or just start looking for another job.
You have to come first and do not deserve the daily stress this may cause after your marriage.Sandy asks…how to agree with wife on insurance pay out spending?Having been in an RTA in 2008 I lost my job, my wife worked (supporting us both for the 1st year after the accident) then gave up work due to the arrival of our beautiful baby girl. We had to claim benefits (where she gets every penny of it excluding tobacco money, I some times get £10 every two weeks for myself!) but I have no real `personal allowance` mainly due to needing every penny to keep us afloat which I understand, but she was like this when we were both working! I never go to the pub (well, once every 3-4 months, and am only aloud £10 at most!) or buy luxury items (neither does she, excluding make up, women’s magazines, coffee at the shop with her friends, etc.) but spending on small items (sometimes cloths for her) is one sided! Like I said, I have to justify buying a chocolate bar where as if she wants something she will just buy it!Not insulting her but she is a controlling woman in most aspects of our relationship, if I am involved in ANYTHING, she needs all of the facts and forces her input on me, never giving me the space to `be a man` and make decisions on unimportant things that don’t directly effect our home life/security. She will tell me how to handle things that I have already processed and know how to deal with! Not giving me the respect to see if I can deal with things on my own. As a family unit we need to work as a team in financial issues, I get that BUT it does not stop there! I am fed up with hearing..what you should do is.. or why didn’t you do it this way, simple fact is I feel like I am not aloud my own mind but must conform to her way (and her parents way) of thinking on EVERY aspect of MY PERSONNAL life (not disagreeing that we need to act as a team on financial/home issues) but I feel I have not identity of my own or freedom to act as a single person in unimportant issues or minor finances.
Now in 2010 (still awaiting second op) we are still on benefits and I am still unable to work, not likely to for the next year while I heal from the next op in a couple of months. Since the accident my wife has had total control over “our” money. We are expecting quite a large pay (large to me) out soon and cant agree on the details of spending it. My wife is the type who
